Greeting from the President of Kelab Volvo Klasik- Malaysia

Its hot and it rains !
But that’s really nothing compared to the weather that an English countryside can throw at you in the middle of winter. Ever since I spent a winter at my mate’s place in Hertfordshire, I’ve come to appreciate, nay love! my Malaysian weather. You can always rely on the cooling rain or glorious heat. Yeah, sure you sweat a little but hey, an air conditioner will set you right in seconds. And what’s the big deal about getting soaked in the rain…just have a hot bath afterwards. Good as new.
In the same way, I’ve come to appreciate my old Volvo over some of the newer cars. Sure its old, but its also reliable. And it even ‘appreciates’ in value. I picked up my car literally from the side of the road some 10 years ago. With the help of an optimistic mechanic, he helped me restore the ‘ol gal’ to the condition that she’s in today. It’s been an uphill task sometimes but worth it. I’ve had the car break down on me just once through the entire period. Amazing? I guess not when you’ve spoken to some of the other Volvo owners. (although I have heard of a friend’s mum who didn’t have such good luck with her car, poor lady).
The Volvo is also (…in my biased opinion) the perfect Malaysian car. Robustly built to handle pot holes and winding roads, it carries the family safely about the country. Large enough an interior to house the family with boot space for the luggage needed. And mostly, it’s easy to fix. Any ala Malaysian under-the-tree based mechanic would be quite happy to attend to your car. But sadly, these cars were from an era gone by. I suppose that’s what they mean when they say the “…good old days”. As the classic Malay saying goes, tak semestinya yang baru adalah baik dan yang lama buruk .
Perhaps that’s why the club was started. To capture and preserve the quality of life that the 1960s offered. Today with over 110 active memberships, Kelab Volvo Klasik continues to grow. And that’s almost 30 incredible years after production stopped. So come along. Get a classic Volvo!
